A ton of research and technology went into the development of these handlebars, and we have been thrilled with the final results! Falling prey to the ever changing new fads to emerge in mountain biking, 35mm clamp size bars were the new cool thing, and all my bikes had them pretty quick. I did not instantly correlate it, but I started getting very numb tingly hands on even somewhat mild descents. I figured I was just getting old, and it was part of the game.... I grew up riding and racing moto as much as possible from 13 to 30 years old. I ended up not riding moto that much the last 15 years as preferred riding/racing my mountain bike, mostly for the fitness. 6 months back I decided to enter a close to home approximate 100 mile long ISDE moto enduro race, and with being off the moto for 3 months before the race I finished pretty well considering. I started obsessing on how with very little training I pulled that off with tolerable arm pump, and no blisters on my hands. Surely 4 hours non stop 100 miles of whoops on a moto, my hands should be wasted, but they weren't. Why couldn't I do a 5 min descent on a bicycle without getting numb hands? My wheels started turning and I started to think about handlebar width, clamp diameter, sweep angles, and vibration. Moto has been running over 800mm wide bars for over 30 years... Mountain bikes 700mm was considered wide 5 years ago.. Surely there was something to learn there, regarding the time moto bars had to evolve, regarding comfort and ergonomics...... I had some handlebars on my Husky Moto I really liked, and the sweep/rise felt super natural, but they were still about 12* back sweep which would be a bit much for bicycles. Mountain bike handlebars had kept getting wider over the last 5 years, but no sweep angle adjustments seem to really have been done. I decided on splitting the difference with my design to 10* back/5* up sweep, and keeping the more flexible 31.8mm clamp diameter to help with absorbing vibration better. Feedback on our new DH bars, regarding comfort when riding aggressive, has been absolutely awesome! We have many many reports of much less arm pump, and numb hands being extremely reduced or even eliminated!
